Omicron is more severe than the Delta variant
With the emergency of the Omicron variant around the globe, a number of publications on the internet suggest otherwise about the variant in comparison to the Delta variant which is still considered the most dominant of all variants by World Health Organisation.
Stories characterizing the variant have taken over the internet with different claims that, the Omicron variant is more severe than the Delta variant, others purport that it’s more transmissible and its reinfection rate is more than that of the Delta variant.
What are the facts about the omicron variant?
According to reports by World Health Organisation (WHO), studies to better characterize the variant itself in terms of severity, transmission and impact worldwide are still ongoing.
WHO however notes that they have so far discovered that Omicron has 2-3 times increased risk of reinfection rate than Delta.
WHO further says that Omicron has been reported in 89 countries worldwide and the Ministry of Health(MOH), Uganda confirmed an increase of Omicron from 7 to 25 cases in the country.
MOH also confirmed that the number of positive cases among incoming travelers has also increased from 6 to 90 in the past days.
